As all of you should known by now (and for those of you who don't), one of my favorite musicians is Stan Ridgway. Right about now you're asking "Who is Stan Ridgway?". Stan is a successful solo artist now, but a while back, he did vocals, words, harmonica and keyboards for the legendary '80's alternative rock band Wall of Voodoo. You're trying to remember the lyrics to 'Mexican Radio' right now, huh?
Stan doesn't just write songs, but tells stories with his music. A few examples, 'Camouflage', a song about a Marine in Vietnam getting rescued by the ghost of another Marine, or 'Drive, She Said', where a cab driver becomes the get away driver to a bank heist. Or my personal favorite, 'Can't Complain', the story of two friends meeting, Burt and Charlie, one of which does nothing but complain about his life. At the end, he is accidentally killed, "... flatten Burt like a dime", to be exact.
It just so happens, that Stan has a new cd called 'Neon Mirage' and is going on tour. And he's stopping at the Rhythm Room, Saturday, August 28th, 2010 at 5:00 pm (it's an early show). Tickets are available at the Rhythm Room or Ticketmaster and are $18 advance purchase / $22 at the door and are on sale now.
Stan Ridgway's new solo album titled 'Neon Mirage' will be released worldwide Aug. 24th on A440 Records
Hope to see you there,
Scott
