Stan Ridgway, successful solo artist and vocals, words, harmonica and keyboards for the legendary '80's alternative rock band Wall of Voodoo is coming to Phoenix. I have followed Stan's music for almost thirty years now and have seen him live three times (twice in the late '80's and '08).. Stan doesn't just write songs, but tells stories with his music.
A few examples, 'Camouflage', a song about a Marine in Vietnam getting rescued by the ghost of another Marine, or 'Drive, She Said', where a cab driver becomes the get away driver to a bank heist. Or my personal favorite, 'Can't Complain', the story of two friends meeting, Burt and Charlie, one of which does nothing but complain about his life. At the end, he is accidentally killed, "... flatten Burt like a dime", to be exact.
Stan Ridgway is playing at the Rhythm Room, Thursday, July 16th, 2009 at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $20 and go on sale April 25th. Hope to see you there.
Till then,
Scott
